Street Life: Sunset Boulevard

Here are some pictures of West Hollywood including pictures of Chateau Marmont a hotel on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. Built in 1927, this hotel is famous for A-listing sightings and a curious history including the untimely death of comedian John Belushi due to drug overdose. A celebrity hideout for famous Hollywood stars such as Robert De Niro, Errol Flynn, Bob Dylan, Clark Gable, Paul Newman, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Jim Morrison, Marilyn Monroe, Boris Karloff, Carole Lombard, Mick Jagger, Ringo Starr, Jean Harlow, Sidney Poitier, Dustin Hoffman, William Holden, Jessica Lange, Led Zepplin and many, many more. The place has a forbidding air to it that makes it ever more mysterious and interesting.

The Viper Room also located in West Hollywood California, in close proximity to the Chateau Marmont, is infamous as the place where actor River Phoenix died due to drug overdose in 1993. Like the Chateau the Viper Room too is a Hollywood celebrity hangout.

  1. Only a shame that LA is so wall-to-wall advertisements. OK, so that’s an exaggeration: but the fact is that the ad.s are the things that burn in to the retina rather than the nice environment. Sighh … Such is life.
    Nice pic.s, really !

        1. Thank you, M-R but I truly love LA the way it is. Despite the ads, grafitti, heavy traffic, madness and pollution. It is now home. What’s more it’s never too far away from the beach and the balmy breeze 🙂

  2. When I am in LA, I like to cruise along Sunset usually from West Hollywood and out the coast. Sometimes, I stop; other times I just cruise through. Maybe next time, I check out these spots. Cool post.

    1. Yea, do stop by these places. So many stories abound about these places. If walls could talk these places would be bubbling with a cacophonic chatter.

  3. I like the ads. LA is an advertisement for a lifestyle that corrupts, destroys and fascinates. The ads are a cool element of that strange reality. Where else can you find a Kosher burrito sold by Koreans? When I leave here, I’ll miss all that weirdness.

  4. Wow…Led Zepplin, Genesis, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel – a few of my all time favorites.
Cool Post. Great pictures ! Next time am there, will look out for these places 🙂

  5. Really enjoyed seeing these pics of Sunset Boulevard, brought back many memories for me, most good! I remember going to The Roxy to see Rocky Horror in 1979! For this English girl, all of 19, that was quite something I can tell you 😉 All these images you share here I’ve seen so many times. I lived in California for the best part of 20 years. My (now ex) husband and in-laws are/were from LA. I’ve had lunch on that train diner. Oh so very familiar to me, love it!
Thanks so much for coming over to my blog and reading my ‘Street’ challenge post and also for sharing yours. I look foward to sharing more 🙂 – Sherri

    1. Thanks for your comment and great story. So cool to know you lived through these places. It must have been a blast from the past! :))
      Thanks for stopping by Sherri.

  6. Great post! I live in WeHo just above Sunset and love the hustle-bustle. The billboards are an urban art form. And one small correction, if I may (and just in case this is a game and there is a prize): one of your photos (just after the Roxy) is Wilshire Blvd in Westwood. Another great part of LA, but it’s no West Hollywood! Cheers.

    1. Thank you my friend. You are absolutely correct about the picture after Roxy, I will label it accordingly. Although I do apologize I have no big prizes today, but you never know…Stay in touch!

  7. Interesting. New Orleans doesn’t have a walk of stars of we certainly have notoriety as well. With all the new film studios and all the movies shot these days in Louisiana maybe someday. It’s kind of annoying though when you need to get somewhere and they have roads blocked off when they are shooting films. LOL. Thanks for liking my post. If you are not already I want to personally invite you to follow my blog.

  8. I can’t thank you enough for sharing these photos! Hollywood is a place I’ve always dreamed of going. It is still on my travel list of places to go! For now, I’ll live vicariously through your wonderful photos! And thanks for the follow also. I gladly return the favor and can’t wait to see what else you have to share! Until next time!

  9. Stellar post. Superb photographs. I didn’t know Rocky Horror had it’s spark of inspiration from an actual place but it makes a lot of sense now. River Phoenix reached so many with is super talent, I am glad he is remembered in such a contemporary style. I would love to visit Hollywood some day, the home of stories! Can’t wait to read more of your posts, I have enjoyed this one hugely!

  10. “America, their America” That statement just crop up. Don’t remember where i got that but is way back then. Paul M. name, one of the Beatles is missing here. Good pictures.

  11. I’m still learning from you, but I’m trying to achieve

track you down until you death.

  13. Games have become a normal part of everything we use in our daily life.
Most people think of high graphic 3D games when they think
about computer games. The banker may employ behavioral
and statistical analogy before offering brides to send the player home.

  16. Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old
daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed.

There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!

  17. how do you go about training with several without spending the rest of your life
trying to develop sufficient skills with them all, or choose the right ones so that you’ll have one at hand in case of an attack.
Mini nunchuka, or mini chucks, are about eight inches in length and be concealed more
easily than the typical nunchuka. There are many benefits in training with martial
    arts weapons.

Arnold does, a million sets and 5 hours of steady pumping iron. Doing these physical exercises will help
reduce your cravings and the stress associated with them by refocusing your consideration on the breathing

    minerals, and antioxidants.

  19. Hey exceptional blog! Does running a blog succh as this take a great deal
of work? I have very little expertise in programming however I had been hoping to start my own blog

  21. Reblogged this on U Be Cute and commented:

I was saddened to learn that Mario Maglieri died today at the golden age of 94. He co-owned Rock n Roll hot spots such as Whisky, Roxy and Rainbow bar and Grill. Famous Rock bands such as The Doors, Guns N Roses, Led Zeppelin and several others started their career at Whisky Go Go. He will be fondly remembered by thousands of Rock fans and super stars. See the famous Roxy Theater above.

So cute of you to drop me a line
